These are our strategic aims for 2008 -2011:-
1.The celebration of African and Caribbean culture in both the UK and Overseas.
Strategies we are using to achieve the above and item 2, 3 and 4 include:
Arts, Crafts and Enterprise Training and Workshop Sessions.
These include acting, singing, dancing and poetry workshops.
Theatre, Dance and Arts Performing Groups.
Members will be able to celebrate their culture by forming theatre, dance and
art performing groups, such as The Inspired Generation.
Awareness Raising.
Raising awareness about African and Caribbean culture through distributing publicity
information, conducting talks, creating Forums and Advisory Groups and holding
stalls at relevant festivals, fairs and events.
Awareness Raising for Children.
We will continue to organise Intergenerational Workshops using reminiscence
methods to teach children about African and Caribbean culture.
2.Empowering individuals aged 40 and over to gain new personal and professional
skills.
Accredited Training Courses.
Accredited training courses will be developed and offered focusing on local
heritage, arts and literacy and numeracy.
Formal Training in Health and Safety, Road Safety and Personal Safety.
Formal training will be organised, focusing on health and safety, road safety.
Recreational Classes.
Regular sports and specialised health and fitness classes will be held for members
and users, including those with weight problems.
Development of an international Programme.
We will create and sustain an international development programme both in the
Caribbean and Africa, promoting Fair Trade and the development of social enterprise
through the distribution of arts and crafts in an effort to contribute towards
the reduction of poverty and economic inequalities.
3. Motivating over 40s to action, using advocacy and self-advocacy principles.
Building Self-Esteem.
Assertiveness and confidence building workshops will be held to help build self-esteem,
including public speaking and presentation training.
Promotion of Health Lifestyles.
Health related activities and promotions are supported to educate ACVA members
about the benefits of a health lifestyle.
Networking.
Pan London networking events are organised to improve communications and enable
discussions regarding Government legislation affecting older people, including
health and economic issues.
Mentoring Scheme.
A mentoring scheme will be established to assist those who wish to become advocates
and self-advocates.
4. To create an environment where the main focus is on African and Caribbean
culture and heritage
Funding Patnership.
ACVA is working with other organisations and heritage based groups to form a
partnership for securing capital funds for the purchase of a building.
Development of Governance.
We would like to invite members to put themselves forward as Committee Members
and so strengthening the capacity of the Committee in order to respond to the
new profile and programmes of ACVA.
Promotion at the Olympic Games.
We hope to take part in the cultural Olympiad by creating training courses to
teach local people to become heritage guides and promote the culture of African
and Caribbean people. This will include the use of the 'Inspired Generation',
a performance group created by ACVA. |
